Artist Statement
The
physical experience with dimensional hardwoods is a contemplative and
introspective activity. Crafting objects is a visceral and provocative
experience, as are the final products, which often become utilitarian pieces
that present themselves in much more subconscious ways than displayed works. To
process my own dispositions, I must employ studies in three-dimensional media.
I make objects to learn about myself, but I present my work to others to afford
them the same indulgence. The prevailing idea in my work is meditation, for
true thought and reflection are in many ways not commonplace. I intend my work
to provide one with chances to quiet oneself and imagine, reflect, dream, or
ponder. But the base, instinctive reality of the crafted furniture piece is its
utilitarian, functional presence in ones life and activity. I design and craft
these works to find the art in existence.
