Artist Statement Jojo Turner

I call myself an artist. Not because I make tortured paintings in a darkened studio. Not because I make beautiful digital models. Not because I sculpt thought provoking homages to an ideal.

I call myself an artist because I look at the world in a different way. I try to see the many solutions to a problem that is placed in front of me. I try to generate as many ideas as possible when I need inspiration. I am an artist because I not only think about, look at, and appreciate art, I make art as well.

But what is art? Who decides what art is? I know I think that what I create is art, but do gallery owners, curators, the public, and my fellow artists think it is art? I do not know the answer to that question, nor do I care. Whatever art is, I will still call myself an artist.
