Tyler Karavias Artist Statement

I think I'd like to consider myself a graphic artist more than a fine artist. Though I dabble in graphic design and illustration, my main focus is photography, and how far I can push photography digitally. "How can I make photography abstract, surreal, psychedelic, optical, confusing or disorienting?" Those are questions I ask myself when I try and make art. Why? Becasue we all have influences, and whether we do it subtly or not, we make art that looks like the art we like. Those styles of art appeal to me most. If you don't like the art you ar making, why make the art? I make art for myself most of the time, simply to ammuse myself. All I can hope for is the rest of the world enjoys it too.

  1. I like the way you include your thought process specifically to the questions you ask yourself before and during making your artwork. Also, I fully agree with the statement that we make art that appeals to us, I think that is what it comes down to no matter what outside influences we have. I think this statement is very clear and uses good language that is easily read.

  2. Your artist statement is very honest, I like it! As artists, we really should be making art to please ourselves, though sometimes we like to pretend that we are doing it with a higher purpose. Good job!

  3. I'm curious about why you consider yourself more of a graphic artist than a fine artist if you only dabble in graphic design and illustration?
